Girl (Em)Power

Women shop. We’re responsible for over 80% of all consumer purchases and spend over $5 trillion annually (over half of GDP) according to the US Census Bureau.

But, what you may not know is that women are also the force behind the rapid growth of many of the Internet’s most powerful brands, and are the main driver of ecommerce and the social web.

Our purchases fuel online retailers like Zappos, Amazon, Gilt Groupe, and Etsy, to name just a few. And we’re connecting and sharing on social networking sites in record numbers. Compared to the opposite sex, we tweet more and follow more people on Twitter; represent 60% of players on Zynga; and generate 71% of daily fan activity on Facebook.

And, we don’t just surf and buy stuff. We give back. In all but one income group, women give more frequently and more generously to charity than men, according to a 2010 study by the Center of Philanthropy at Indiana University.

Individually, and collectively, we’re a force to be reckoned with. We have the purchasing power to change markets. We have the influence to sway others. We have the heart and desire to make a difference for causes. And, now, as matriarchs of the Internet and the social web, we have the platform to truly change the world through our everyday actions.

Connect the dots between your shopping, sharing, and social impact with Social Good Network. Shop your favorite brands and support causes you care about. You give back with every purchase, without any additional expense. Then, share your good deed and ask others to join you. We make it easy. You make it possible.

You go girl!
